It’s important to maintain your Bend apartment year-round. That means doing a little cleaning in the spring, but it also means making sure your property is ready for colder temperatures.
Here are a few maintenance tips that will make sure your Bend apartment makes it through the coldest season of the year.
Prevent frozen pipes
A frozen pipe can end up costing you a lot of money. If one bursts when the temperature drops, your Bend apartment could be flooded, which means spending tens of thousands of dollars on renovations.
Protecting your pipes is fairly easy. Start by making sure they’re properly insulated. If you have empty units, consider turning the water off, or at least make sure to turn on the heat so they don’t freeze.
You can get your tenants to help too. Ask them to open cabinet doors to heat pipes and ask them to leave the faucet dripping overnight if the temperature is going to drop particularly low.
Heavy snow and ice can really do a number on a roof, especially if it’s not being properly maintained. Before the winter weather comes in full force, do an inspection of the roof. Repair any broken or damaged shingles, replace flashing, and consider replacing the roof, if needed. It’s better to do it in the fall than realize a repair or a replacement needs to be made in the dead of winter.
Don’t forget to trim trees to prevent damage too! If you could use a little help, give us a call. Our property maintenance crew would be happy to winterize your Bend apartment.
